Recent Event Recap

ZooBrew was held on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Potawatomi Zoo. MEGA’s booth had a Hawaiian theme and served 11 homebrews on tap. We had about 10 volunteers that rotated working the MEGA booth, pouring at other booths, and generally enjoying the event. The weather was great with a crisp, cool evening. The zoo was very happy with our participation.

Weko Beach Brewers Festival was held on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Weko Beach, MI. MEGA volunteers poured at a variety of booths throughout the event. Next year we could use more volunteers so participants can have more breaks to enjoy the event.

All Sour Day was held on Sunday, Sept. 27. Participants shared 18 sour beers. The collection process didn’t work quite as anticipated, so the group improvised. Adam has a small beer going now to grow up the collected dregs.

Cider Club Buy collection was the weekend of Oct. 3 & 4 from Lehman’s Orchard in Niles. Be prepared for some tasty ciders to share at meetings in a couple months!

Club News & Upcoming Events

Nomination for Officers Election

Nominations will be submitted at the November club meeting for President, Secretary, and Treasurer. If you are interested in running for one of these positions and want to learn more, please plan on attending the October meeting. The current officers are willing to remain in their positions.

Learn to Homebrew Day

Saturday, November 7 at Michiana Brewers Supply, Downtown South Bend

Starting at 10:00 am

Aaron Goldstein, MBS owner, will be supplying details at the October Meeting. He is looking for 8-9 members to brew on-site that day, with at least doing extract brews. Brewing supplies will be available at cost. Aaron will be providing a main dish and encourages all attendees (brewing or not) to bring side dishes and homebrew. In year’s past, club members have brewed beer on-site and were available to answer questions about homebrewing. Quality Wine and Ale Supply is not hosting an event this year. For those unfamiliar with the event, it is an annual AHA coordinated educational event designed to share our love and passion for brewing with others.

Hair of the Dog Party

HofD is MEGA’s annual post-holiday party and takes the place of our January meeting. Date, time, and location are still to be determined. Our hope is that the Crooked Ewe 2nd floor will be ready to host the party, but it will probably need to be at another location. The Edwardsburg VFW has hosted the event for the past few years at no cost to the club. If you know of another free location that can host a small-to-medium party, please contact one of the officers.
